What is Epoxy?

Epoxy is any class of adhesives, plastics, or other materials that are polymers. What is inside epoxy resin is called "epoxides" which are organic compounds of mostly carbon and some oxygen molecules. There are additives placed in epoxy to manipulate its use. At Rocky Mountain Hard Rock Flooring we only use the epoxy resin needed for each specific job. We will never sell you an inferior product not suited for your needs.

Where is Epoxy used?

Epoxy resins are commonly used for commercial and industrial floors. It is applied over the existing concrete floor. There are many advantages to applying epoxy resin over a concrete floor. The epoxy resin will add traction to reduce workplace injuries, it creates an even surface at all times for safe transportation of heavy machinery, the epoxy resin increases the amount of pressure the concrete can handle by at least 5,000 psi, and the epoxy resin is extremely easy to clean. In most cases our specially formulated epoxy resins match perfectly with our customers.

How is Epoxy applied?

Epoxy needs to be installed correctly, plain and simple. If epoxy resin is installed incorrectly the effect is immediately felt. You could lose thousands of dollars for an epoxy resin mistake. Epoxy resin is the future of modern flooring but if applied incorrectly by an amature, a "first timer", or a " do it yourselfer ", your floor will look more like modern art instead of the masterpiece you intended it to be. What are the benefits of Epoxy Floors?

There are many benefits to owning an epoxy resin floor. Some of the most notable benefits of an epoxy resin floor is its appearance, affordability, resistance, durability, protectiveness, longevity, variety, and safety. The epoxy resin appearance is bright and professional. It creates a noticeable smooth and an even surface, and is extremely easy to clean. Epoxy is cheaper per sq ft than conventional floors and installation prices are lower than other flooring services. It is highly resistant to most things that can damage a floor and is impervious to most chemical spills. The subfloor (mostly concrete floors) are protected from normal wear on the concrete so you never have to keep repairing cracked, chiped, or flaky concrete ever again which saves you money over time. That means epoxy resin floors will extend the lifespan of your subfloor for decades, and the epoxy itself is exceptionally durable. There is also a wide variety of color and design options with epoxy resin floors. It can be matched for any preexisting color scheme and can be used to create custom floor logos as well. Epoxy resin also enhances visibility indoors creating a more clear and safe working environment.

What are the downsides to Epoxy Floors?

In short yes there are downsides to some epoxy products. But this can be expected by any type of flooring. Epoxy resin lasts longer, is more durable, and is cheaper to maintain than conventional floors. Theses are some of the problems that can happen with conventional epoxy systems. They are temporary and will erode over time. Some of their epoxies will make your floors extremely slippery. The preparation is tedious due to the fact that the subfloor needs to be cleaned thoroughly and repairs to the subfloor need to be done before installation, if need be. The application with conventional epoxy systems is time consuming and can take several days to be completed. Most conventional epoxies have strong fumes when wet. Epoxy floors need to be installed correctly or the floor will fail entirely. The epoxy will not adhere to the subfloor if the subfloor is not prepared properly. If moisture is trapped it will break the epoxy from underneath leaving a hole in your floor, and if any of theses mistakes happen the entire floor will need to be removed. Which is a long and very expensive process.
